Dr. Werner Riegel, Partner, doctorate in physics, German patent attorney
Dr. Werner Riegel, Partner, holds a doctorate in physics, is a German patent attorney and a professional representative before the European Patent Office (European Patent Attorney), as well as a representative before the European Intellectual Property Office (European Trademark and Design Attorney). During his studies of physics at the University of Würzburg and during his diploma thesis and doctorate at Dornier GmbH in Immenstaad on Lake Constance, he was primarily concerned with thermodynamics and physical chemistry, in particular with the generation of high-pressure plasma jets for the purification of combustion exhaust gases from motor vehicles. Following his doctorate, he joined the patent department of EADS Deutschland GmbH (now Airbus Group), where he completed his training in intellectual property law.
From 2012 to 2019, Dr. Riegel was Lead IP Counsel for the E-Mobility Division of ZF Friedrichshafen AG. Since 2020, he has been responsible as Lead IP Counsel for all patent matters of ZF Friedrichshafen AG's Central Research and the "Autonomous Mobility Systems" system house of ZF Friedrichshafen AG. His experience in patent law matters lies in the fields of electronics, sensor technology, mechanics and mechatronics as well as assembly and connection technology. In addition, Dr. Riegel has experience in employee invention law as well as in the drafting and negotiation of license agreements, cooperation agreements and R&D agreements with national and international companies and universities
