Tobias Kalinowski is a graduate electrical engineer (Dipl.-Ing.), a German Patent Attorney, and a qualified representative before the European Patent Office (European Patent Attorney) as well as a representative before the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (European Trademark and Design Attorney). During his studies in electrical engineering at the University of Bremen, he focused in particular on automation engineering, semiconductor technology, micromechanics, and sensor technology. He completed his professional training in industrial property protection in 2002, which included placements at the German Patent and Trademark Office (DPMA) and the Federal Patent Court (BPatG). After several years of work at a law firm in northern Germany and as a patent specialist in the patent department of BSH Bosch und Siemens Hausgeräte GmbH—where he was responsible for providing comprehensive patent law advice for a product division—he initially worked as a freelance professional.
From 2017 until the end of 2025, Mr. Kalinowski worked for a medium-sized law firm with offices in Munich and Berlin. He advises and represents clients of all sizes, ranging from start-ups and small and medium-sized enterprises to large corporations. His areas of expertise include, in particular, the automotive sector, software patents, and the field of artificial intelligence (AI). He also has extensive experience in conducting opposition and appeal proceedings, preparing freedom-to-operate analyses, and participating in patent infringement proceedings.
